Baywash Bikini Car Wash in Winter Park, Florida is open seven days a week and offers a variety of bikini-clad cleaning services ranging from $10 for a hand wash and dry to $60 for waxing.
Owner Steve McMahon, 47, originally came up with the idea of raising money for his daughter’s school five years ago — but it’s proved so popular that he now plans to open a chain of bikini car washes across America.
However, not everyone is happy about it. Local police have now banned their officers from going to the car wash again and again, where they have taken advantage of free services.
Mr. McMahon first opened the controversial car wash in 2009.
“It started as a fundraiser for my daughter’s school and it just evolved from there,” he said.
I enjoy working at Baywash. It’s hard work in terms of labor, but it’s a lot of fun at the end of the day, “she said.
Some people may see Baywash as sexist, but I don’t see it that way. My friends and family are happy that I work here – it’s just my job, “she added.
But not everyone finds the car wash a good, clean pleasure.
When we opened, we offered free services to law enforcement because we valued their service, said Mr. McMahon.
One day, a female officer took a photo of sheriffs washing their cars—they quickly got an email from the captain saying “no more baywash,” “he added.
Despite some people saying that the car wash makes women look bad, most people are happy with the service.
Client TJ Reed said: “They do a great job at Baywash—and you get some great eye candy too.”
“If a young lady has to wear a bikini in 90-degree weather to get to college or pay her bills, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”
And the car wash is doing well – which will open in several locations in the future.
“I have a few locations in Altima and one in Miami ready to open,” Mr. McMahon said.
